Kohima: Oriental College Kohima finished its 8th annual Skill Fest on July 18, 2026. The three day event ran at the college auditorium in partnership with the 13 Assam Rifles Kohima. Organizers focused on the theme Skill Up for a Better Tomorrow. Students cycled through seven specific trades including baking, basket making, carpentry, car repairing, crochet, electrical fitting, and food processing.

Major Anshuman Sawant attended as the special guest for the closing ceremony. He pushed students to embrace teamwork and adaptability as core traits for a successful life. He noted that degrees help but real world ability matters most. He told the crowd, "While degrees might open doors, it was skills that determined success." The major also challenged attendees to avoid fearing failure during their personal growth.

The program started in 2017 under former principal Dr. Ketshukietuo Dzüvichü. Vice principal Chibeni Murry explained that the goal remains giving students an edge in a changing economy. She noted the college cannot guarantee jobs, but it can build better personalities. Principal Dr. Watinaro Longkumer praised the students for their energy during the practical sessions. The college plans to keep mixing academic rigor with hands on trade training.
