Kohima: Nagaland’s Noklak district administration declared New Pangsha an African Swine Fever infected area following lab confirmation of the virus. Officials identified the pathogen after tissue samples from dead pigs traveled to the Animal Health Centre at NERDDL in Khanapara, Guwahati.
Multiple pigs died around the village before the report reached the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer in Noklak. The administration moved fast to stop the spread. They established a one-kilometre radius around New Pangsha as an Infected Zone and a ten-kilometre radius as a Surveillance Zone.
Deputy Commissioner P Mono Khiamniungan banned the sale, purchase, transport, and consumption of pigs and pork products in these areas. The order is clear. "Residents have also been advised against buying, selling or consuming pork and pork products in the infected zone and adjoining areas."
The government ordered safe disposal of carcasses through deep burial or incineration. Officials must follow strict biosecurity rules. The Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer is currently managing quarantine and sanitization efforts. Residents should report sudden pig deaths to the nearest veterinary hospital immediately. These restrictions stay until further notice.
