Imphal: A new advocacy group, the Meitei Naga Protection Committee, launched today at the Manipur Press Club. The organization aims to mend ties between the Meitei and Naga people. It marks a push for unity. T. Ramananda leads the committee as president, while Merajao Kabui serves as General Secretary and S.A. Achan handles finance.
Kabui claims external forces are driving a wedge between these groups. He warned that illegal immigration now threatens the future of both communities. These indigenous groups are becoming minorities in their own home. Kabui stated, "The number of illegal immigrants was increasing, posing a threat to the future of both the Meitei and Naga communities, which he said were gradually becoming minorities in their own land."
The group also slammed the state government for its response to displaced persons. Kabui argued the government ignored highway blockades aimed at specific groups. He further alleged that officials acted with urgency only when certain blockades interfered with the movement of illegal immigrants. The MNPC now plans to protect the interests and survival of Manipur indigenous people.
