Guwahati: Fraudsters are impersonating Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Aranyak Saikia on Facebook. The cyber criminals set up a fake profile to target unsuspecting locals. They requested money from several individuals under the guise of the senior government official. The scheme involves tricking people into handing over cash.

The scam surfaced when residents contacted the real district office about the unusual requests. Saikia took immediate action. He filed a formal police complaint regarding the impersonation and the fraudulent activity. The deputy commissioner is now pushing for a full investigation to identify the perpetrators. Authorities are looking into the identity theft and the digital footprint left by the gang.

This incident highlights the growing threat of high-level digital impersonation. The administration issued a warning regarding the situation. "The matter came to light after people were contacted through the fake account in the name of the senior district official," officials stated.
