Kohima: Nagaland’s National Lok Adalat cleared 387 out of 444 cases on September 12. The effort resulted in 5,25,66,901.20 rupees in total settlements. This marks an 87 percent disposal rate. Eleven separate benches handled the load across various district headquarters.
The Nagaland State Legal Services Authority confirmed 318 cases were resolved at the pre-litigation stage. Another 69 were pending matters. Pre-litigation work focused on bank and loan recoveries along with telephone bills. Pending cases included criminal compoundable offences and accident claims.
Dimapur led the state with 152 settled cases. It secured 1,71,30,176 rupees. Kohima followed with 1,93,72,236 rupees settled across bank, commercial, and legal act cases. Mezivolu T Therieh, Chairperson of the Kohima DLSA, urged locals to use the forum. She stated, "The public should avail benefits using Lok Adalat as a platform rather than fearing it."
Phek DLSA resolved 37 pre-litigation bank cases. They settled 35,41,222 rupees. Mon district handled 19 cases, closing 16 for 48,78,450 rupees. Peren settled 42 bank recovery cases, totaling 16,23,400 rupees. Kiphire closed 44 cases for 14,49,792 rupees. Tuensang, Zunheboto, Mokokchung, Wokha, and Longleng districts also completed settlements. They brought in 8,61,913, 20,63,645, 8,85,610, 1,91,500, and 5,68,957.22 rupees respectively. The State Bank of India and Nagaland State Cooperative Bank were among the primary participants.

This September 12, 2026, session marked the 3rd Quarterly National Lok Adalat held across the state. Authorities confirmed that the caseload included Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) files, electricity bill disputes, and Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act cases alongside the previously reported bank and telephone bill recoveries.
District records provided a deeper look at the heavy lifting behind the numbers. In Dimapur, officials processed 123 bank recoveries, three MACT cases, 25 BSNL claims, and a single mediation matter. Kohima's docket included 52 bank files, eight BSNL cases, one commercial suit, and an NI Act dispute. Peren tackled a specific electricity bill impasse at the Nagaland State Cooperative Bank in Jalukie, while Wokha officials closed three of five pending criminal compoundable matters.
