Kohima: Nagaland is overhauling how it measures school success. School Education Advisor Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome launched the School Quality Assessment Pilot at the Capital Convention Centre in Kohima this Thursday. This system moves past simple test scores. It tracks school infrastructure, governance, and how teachers actually perform in the classroom.
The pilot operates under Mission SOAR, or Systems for Outstanding Achievements and Reformation. It evaluates schools across 350 elements and 177 units. Dr. Yhome stated that the new assessment system would cover 350 elements and 177 units, with schools to be evaluated regularly across different domains. The initiative aims to standardize education across government and private sectors. It sets new benchmarks for school fees, teacher quality, and class sizes.
Big changes are coming to the classroom. The state plans to weave PISA-aligned goals into English, science, and math. Digital literacy is a priority. Nagaland signed a 100 million rupee deal with Google and is partnering with IIT Delhi for certification and curriculum work. Teachers will now attend the newly formed School Leadership Academy. Training is mandatory for future promotions.
Dr. Yhome wants students to learn local history. He specifically cited Article 371A, BEFR, ILP, and the state's biodiversity as essential textbook content. He also pushed the neighborhood school principle to cut down on Kohima traffic congestion. Elevate Foundation, the Department of School Education, and Mission SOAR organized the pilot launch. Karishma Shanghvi, Snehal Joshi, Kevisato Sanyu, and Georgina Yhome of the Elevate Foundation facilitated the event.
