Kohima: Nagaland officials kicked off a medicinal plant project in Vihokhu village, Niuland, this Wednesday. The state is partnering with Dabur India Ltd to cultivate Piper longum and Piper retrofractum. This initiative expands into Zunheboto and Mon districts as well. The local climate suits these plants perfectly.
Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir addressed the crowd at the 11th Ayurveda Day event. He pushed farmers to scale up their operations. The project aims to boost local income while preserving traditional medicinal knowledge. Jamir noted past market struggles with coffee and ginger. He confirmed, "Dabur India Ltd. would procure the cultivated produce, unlike past experiences with crops such as coffee and ginger where farmers faced market difficulties."
The event drew a wide range of local leadership. Dr. Tiakaba Jamir of the Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy discussed wellness under the theme, Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow. Dabur Principal Scientist Jangaiah Mangalaram handled the technical presentation on growing the crop. Dr. T. Bendangtula chaired the session.
The program wrapped up with a vote of thanks from Dr. Seyiekhrietuo John. Dr. Vebuzo Keyho led a final prayer for the project. Officials now urge farmers and youth to make the pilot a success.
