Imphal: The Naga People’s Union Imphal fired back at the state government on September 18. They demanded immediate action regarding the abduction and murder of six Naga civilians from Leilon Vaiphei village. These victims died on May 13, 2023. Silence persists. NPUI President M. Ngaranmi blasted the administration for refusing to launch legal proceedings against groups that already confessed to the crimes.
Both the Kuki-Zo Council and the Kuki Inpi Manipur have formally apologized and admitted involvement in the killings. Ngaranmi wants their office bearers arrested and interrogated. He told the press, "The full facts could be established only if office bearers of the KZC and KIM were arrested and questioned." He also identified the Kuki National Front-Presidency as a primary target for law enforcement.
The union demands that the state seize weapons tied to these murders and publish a full white paper. Ngaranmi specifically called for the removal of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen. He claims the Naga community has lost all faith in her office. The union wants the government to scrap the Suspension of Operations pact with the KNF-P and label the group a terrorist organization.
Ngaranmi thanked the Meira Paibis and other civil society groups for their backing. The fight continues. He urged state MLAs and MPs to push for justice for the grieving families. The union plans to keep up public agitation until the law delivers capital punishment to those responsible for the massacre.
