Imphal: The Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups demands the government execute political deals signed between India and Naga representatives. The group insists that a negotiated solution acknowledging Naga history and identity is the only path to lasting peace. Negotiations led by former interlocutor R.N. Ravi between 2017 and 2019 reached a conclusion. They now sit idle. The government has yet to announce them.
The group claims these talks bridged constitutional gaps regarding Article 371(A). They warned that tampering with this provision risks severe consequences. The WC, NNPGs stated: "Only a negotiated political solution recognising Naga history, identity and political position can ensure lasting coexistence." They argue that political conflicts require negotiation rather than judicial or administrative meddling.
Concerns remain regarding the use of natural resources like rare earths and strategic minerals. The committee fears side agreements could undermine the Agreed Position and Status Paper. They expect the government to protect these resources for future generations. The group reminded leaders of the August 3, 2015, Framework Agreement with NSCN (IM) and the November 17, 2017, Agreed Position with the WC, NNPGs.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah face direct calls to honor these commitments. The WC, NNPGs seeks an inclusive, pluralistic path forward. They want an end to the prolonged conflict through the formal adoption of all negotiated terms.
