Meghalaya High Court Presses State on Crematorium and Burial Site Verification

Shillong: The High Court of Meghalaya is demanding answers. A Division Bench led by Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice W Diengdoh reviewed an Action Taken Report concerning state crematoriums and burial grounds. This hearing stems from the case Re-Seng Khasi Hima Crematorium versus the State of Meghalaya.

Additional Advocate General H. Kharmih submitted the report on behalf of the government. It covered 60 crematorium sites. The state claims identification is ongoing and promises cash once officials finish the paperwork. The bench found the report lacking. It failed to address burial sites entirely.

The Amicus Curiae called out the oversight in court. He noted that the report "failed to specify a timeframe for completing the verification process." Judges granted the government more time to provide the missing data. The court set the next hearing for October 16.
