Imphal: The Handloom and Textile Employees Union in Manipur is doubling down on its demand for a technically qualified director. Union representative Chingtam Luwang slammed the government during a press conference at the Manipur Press Club for installing an MCS cadre officer instead of a technical expert. The union argues this move undermines the specialized nature of the department.
Luwang said, "The objection was not intended to protect any particular incumbent but to safeguard the Directorate and its technical character." The union claims their previous pleas to the state have gone unanswered.
Meanwhile, the Powerloom Estate at Lamboikhongnangkhong is at the center of a separate fight. Critics charge that the site is failing because the facility’s transformer has been busted for three years. They claim administrative neglect has brought the estate to the brink of closure.
OSD L. Bobocha fired back at those accusations. He claims the transformer is working fine. The department recently bought electricity for the site. Bobocha noted that no entrepreneurs from the list of 41 registered businesses have complained to his office. He defended the department's output, pointing to ongoing work producing curtains and national flags. He wants critics to check their facts before talking.
