Manipur Officials Push For More Voluntary Blood Donations

Imphal: Manipur health officials met at Sangai Hall in Hotel Imphal to mark National Voluntary Blood Donation Day. The event, held at North AOC, highlighted the urgent need for regular donors under the theme "One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives."

Key figures led the ceremony. Commissioner-cum-Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Sumant Singh joined MACS Project Director Anna Arambam and Health Services Director Dr. N. Hemanta Kumar on the dais. The group gathered to celebrate donors and drive community involvement.

Dr. L. Dayalaxmi, director of the State Blood Transfusion Council, told the crowd that voluntary giving remains the safest method for transfusions. The system maintains high safety standards. Every unit faces mandatory screening for HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, malaria, and syphilis before it hits the shelf.

Donors help maintain stable stocks. Men can donate four times a year, and women three times, provided they pass medical checks. Staff perform the five required tests every single time, even for repeat donors. While overall numbers remain low, state records through August show a promising rise in voluntary participation.
