Imphal: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla met officials at Lok Bhavan on October 22 to press for faster construction along the India-Myanmar border. The state shares a 398-km international boundary with Myanmar. Much of this line remains wide open. Security is the priority.

The meeting included the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police, the Security Advisor, the Additional Chief Secretary, and the Home Commissioner. Representatives from the Border Roads Task Force and the Assam Rifles also sat in. Colonel Dev, commanding the 25 BRTF, delivered a full technical breakdown of the current construction status. Officials from Ukhrul, Churachandpur, Chandel, and Tengnoupal attended in person or via video link.

Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam reported last month that 55 km of the fence is already standing. The work continues as violence spikes in Kamjong district. Four Tangkhul Naga civilians died near Pilong village on September 24. Locals claim attackers crossed the border. "Several Naga organisations have alleged that Kuki militants from Myanmar were involved," officials noted.

Authorities have yet to verify these claims independently. Reports of arson and armed conflict persist in border villages. The fencing project remains the state's main tool to lock down the porous frontier.
