Kohima: The Lotha Students’ Union is demanding immediate action against rampant underage driving in Wokha. Students without valid licenses currently operate private motor vehicles with little regard for the law. The union warns this behavior endangers the public and the drivers themselves.
Under Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, parents, guardians, or vehicle owners face legal consequences if a juvenile commits an offense. The union claims that authorities must step up enforcement to avoid potential fatalities. They specifically called on the district administration to "immediately enforce strict checking and take necessary action as per law."
The LSU plans to track violations and report them to the proper authorities. Beyond road safety, the union is targeting the living conditions of students. They noted that those staying in rental properties without supervision often abandon discipline and good conduct. Parents and schools must now monitor academic progress and daily behavior more closely. The union warned that they will treat any negligence in these matters with absolute seriousness.

LSU President S. Zubenthung Ngullie and General Secretary Nyanthung M. Khuvung spearheaded the latest push, raising questions about whether enforcement authorities will face accountability if a fatality occurs. They are demanding that officials move beyond warnings and guarantee rigorous street checks to prevent future wrecks.
The union also expanded its scope to include the moral integrity of the student body. They are now calling on parents and schools to actively track the lifestyle and daily conduct of students living away from home, viewing a lack of oversight as a direct threat to student character.
