Local group demands shutdown of unauthorized birth certificate cell in Phulbari

Shillong: The All Hills Meghalaya A’chik Youth Federation (AHAM) from Dadenggre has filed a formal complaint with the Deputy Commissioner regarding an unauthorized certificate cell in Phulbari. The organization alleges that the facility is operating in direct violation of the Registration of Birth and Death Act of 1969 and the Meghalaya Registration of Births and Deaths Rules of 1999.

According to the complaint, the Sub-Divisional Officer’s office in Dadenggre has been assigning staff to process birth certificate applications at this location without any official notification or authorization for a sanctioned branch office. The group contends that the cell lacks the legal framework required to conduct such administrative duties.

The AHAM warns that these operations are creating significant confusion and inconvenience for local residents. The federation has requested an immediate halt to all activities at the site and is calling for disciplinary measures against the officials responsible for establishing the unauthorized cell.
