Shillong: The Khasi Students' Union has formally asked Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to intervene regarding the significant delay in disbursing the Chief Minister's Scholarship for the 2025 academic year. The student body reports that many applicants have been waiting more than a year for funds despite successfully completing the required verification process and meeting all eligibility standards.
Alerick Kharjana, the education secretary for the union, noted that the organization has received a high volume of complaints from students facing financial strain. He stated, "The union has received numerous complaints from students who are yet to receive financial assistance despite meeting all eligibility criteria and completing the verification process."
This financial backlog is creating major challenges for students from lower-income families who depend on the aid to cover tuition, books, and housing costs. The union warned that the ongoing issue is disrupting academic progress and eroding confidence in the current administrative system.
To resolve the situation, the KSU is calling for the immediate release of all pending payments and the publication of a transparent timeline for future disbursements. They have also suggested that the government establish a dedicated grievance helpline to provide better support for affected students.
