Kohima: The Kohima District Task Force on Child Labour kicked off the Pan-India Rescue and Rehabilitation Campaign 4.0. This national effort follows orders from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Officers hit the ground running with an awareness drive across local schools between August 24 and August 28. They want to stop child labour.
By Tuesday, the team reached students and faculty at Government Middle School L. Khel, GMS P. Khel, GMS Merhulietsa, and GMS New Minister's Hill. The campaign focuses on protecting children and stressing the value of education. Officials briefed everyone on the Child and Adolescent Labour Prohibition and Regulation Act. This law bans hiring kids under 14 and blocks those aged 14 to 18 from hazardous work.
Employers face jail time and heavy fines for breaking these rules. The task force instructed teachers to keep a sharp eye on attendance logs. "Teachers were asked to monitor school attendance and report cases in which a child remains absent for 15 consecutive days to the concerned authorities for timely intervention," the task force stated. Officials plan to start site inspections and rescue operations once the awareness phase ends.
They are hunting for children stuck in prohibited jobs to ensure they get help. The group is now calling on parents, community leaders, and the general public to report any suspected cases of child labour.
