Kohima: The Kohima District Administration and SANKALP DHEW awarded twenty girl students the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scholarship on August 7. The ceremony took place at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall. Each winner earned a certificate and 10,000 rupees for their academic hard work.
Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem led the event. He told the girls to keep looking beyond their school books. He said, "The certificates should serve as a reminder that the district administration believes in their potential." Buchem acts as the chairman for the District Level Committee for Mission Shakti.
EAC Ane Khieya managed the program. She argued that the scholarship is about more than just government money. It aims to build economic independence and dignity for girls. An ambassador for the program promised that the winners would keep pushing to help others.
The district held a committee meeting after the awards. Officials reviewed work from the first quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year. This included sessions on mental health, the POCSO Act, and financial literacy. They also handed out sanitary pads and held tree planting events. Gender Specialist Kesoneinuo presented a new plan for the year. This plan links the police, schools, and the agricultural department to reach more students through outreach and skill training.
