Shillong: James Pangsang Kongkal Sangma officially joined the Upper House of Parliament on Monday. The National People’s Party national working president took his oath of office in Hindi. Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan administered the ceremony. Sangma now represents Meghalaya as the state’s lone member in the chamber.
The former two-time Dadenggre MLA secured the seat unopposed last month. He arrived for the swearing-in alongside family members, senior NPP leaders, and his brother, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
The Chief Minister took to X to mark the occasion. He urged his brother to be a strong advocate for the region. Conrad Sangma wrote, "I hope he would effectively represent the voice and aspirations of the people of Meghalaya while contributing meaningfully to the state and the nation." The NPP leadership echoed this sentiment, stating that Sangma holds a significant responsibility to serve the state with strength and wisdom.
