Itanagar: Itanagar police recovered 14 stolen two-wheelers and detained four minors following a month-long crackdown. The operation targeted vehicle thieves across the Capital Region and Papum Pare district.
The push began after officers filed case 171/2026 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on June 25. Authorities spent 20 days tracking leads and verifying tips. They eventually caught four suspects aged between 10 and 14 years old.
Police found the stash at various locations scattered throughout the area. Many of the scooters and bikes showed clear signs of tampering. Investigators discovered that the thieves had altered engine numbers, chassis numbers, and registration plates to hide the origin of the property. Verification of the original records is now moving forward.
The investigation team operated under the direct supervision of the Itanagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer and the local station head. Officials stated that the "recoveries were made during a sustained operation carried out over the past 20 days to curb two-wheeler thefts in Itanagar and adjoining areas."
Police will return the bikes to their rightful owners once legal paperwork concludes. The investigation remains active as teams finalize the verification process for each recovered unit.
