Kohima: A state-level health team wrapped up a three-day inspection of Wokha district on July 31. The National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme delegation surveyed local clinics, the district hospital, and wellness centers from July 29 to July 31. They aimed to shore up disease monitoring and stop mosquito breeding.
Dr. Imnapokim, State Programme Officer and Joint Director of the NVBDCP, led the team alongside Dr. Imkongtemsu, Joint Director of the Universal Immunization Programme. Their sweep included a series of stakeholder meetings to address malaria, dengue, and Japanese encephalitis. The team included consultants, a lab technician, and an insect collector.
The group held a sensitization drive at Bhandari Town Hall on July 30. More than 70 people attended. Extra Assistant Commissioner Kilangtemsu praised the joint effort. "The medical department, with the support of the district administration, has remained active for prevention of vector borne diseases in the sub-division by initiating localised steps in creating public awareness and organising social works to maintain sanitation, clean environment and public health safety," he said.
Dr. Imnapokim warned that local weather patterns help mosquitoes thrive. He urged residents to consistently use government-issued long-lasting insecticidal nets. At the same time, Dr. Imkongtemsu pushed the benefits of the HPV vaccine to prevent cervical cancer and secure a healthy future for young girls.
A final review took place on July 31 at the Chief Medical Officer's office. Later that day, Deputy Commissioner K. Mhathung Tsanglao hosted over 40 participants at his conference hall. The crowd included town councilors, colony chairmen, and local leaders. They focused on strengthening surveillance and cleaning up breeding sites.
