GREF Labourer Killed in Tragic Construction Accident in Sikkim

Gangtok: A 45-year-old labourer identified as Gnawang Sherpa, a resident of Naya Busty in Phadamchen, was killed in a workplace accident at a construction site in the Pakyong district of Sikkim. The incident involved the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) and occurred on Thursday in Zuluk.

Authorities reported that the tragedy took place while Sherpa and his colleagues were attempting to relocate a compressor machine. During the maneuver, the equipment slipped and crushed the worker, resulting in fatal injuries. He was rushed to the Military Hospital in Zuluk, where medical personnel pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Following the event, the body was transported to Gangtok on Friday to undergo a post-mortem examination. Local police have registered a formal case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
