Gangtok: A court has sentenced Rabi Lal Limboo of Majhitar, Rangpo, to seven years in prison under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The conviction stems from the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl at Limboo’s residence on June 2, 2026.

Authorities launched the investigation after the District Child Protection Unit in Pakyong filed a formal complaint. Officials have kept the identity of the minor victim private to comply with legal protections for children involved in sexual assault cases.

Before his conviction, Limboo served as the vice president of the Sikkim Mulbasi Surakshak Sangathan. The organization recently expelled him, citing internal reports of "alleged anti-organisational activities, including the alleged collection of funds in the organisation's name for personal gain."
