Farmers in Mawsawa and Dommawlum promote organic agriculture

Shillong: More than 150 farmers and farm women gathered in the villages of Mawsawa and Dommawlum on Saturday to participate in the Khet Bachao Abhiyaan. This initiative, which translates to the Save the Farm Campaign, focuses on educating local growers about the benefits of natural and organic agricultural methods.

Organizers highlighted how these practices help improve soil fertility and promote long-term agricultural sustainability. The event provided hands-on training to help attendees transition toward greener techniques.

During the session, experts conducted live demonstrations on the proper application of lime in paddy fields. Participants also learned how to build low-cost vermibeds to support vermicomposting enterprises, providing them with affordable ways to boost crop yields. The campaign successfully encouraged the local community to adopt healthier, more sustainable farming habits.
