Shillong: East Khasi Hills officials opened their doors to local youth on Thursday. The new A Day at DC Office initiative aims to show students exactly how local government operates. The first group of visitors came from Government Boys Higher Secondary School.
Students walked through the Public Facilitation Centre, Political Branch, Certificate Branch, and the District Disaster Management Authority. Staff explained their daily duties and fielded student questions. The kids sat down with Additional Deputy Commissioner Dali Kharshiing and Assistant Commissioners Sonnet Jose and Chingba Marak. They discussed the realities of public service careers.
Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal closed the event with a talk on civic responsibility. He challenged the group to pay closer attention to how their government functions. "He spoke to the students about the role of the district administration and encouraged them to take an active interest in civic affairs." Officials plan to run these visits twice every month for students throughout the district.
