Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on Monday. He targeted current financial roadblocks hitting the Northeast. The state leader specifically pushed for a review of the strict ceiling on Externally Aided Projects.
Current limits block the region from securing vital cash for infrastructure. Sangma also demanded that states keep gains made from exchange-rate fluctuations during these projects. He argues this flexibility is mandatory for steady development.
The Chief Minister praised the session on social media. He called the talks "very constructive" while highlighting the need for increased financial capacity across the Northeast. Sangma thanked the minister for her guidance and attention to these regional fiscal issues.
