Guwahati: A bus careened off National Highway 8 and tumbled into a deep gorge today. The crash occurred at Berajal in Nilambazar, located within Assam's Sribhumi district. The vehicle was headed from Rangamati toward Silchar when it struck a massive pothole.

The impact forced the bus off the road and sent it plunging down the steep embankment. This highway links Assam and Tripura, but its decaying state has become a major point of contention for local commuters.

"Further details regarding casualties, injuries and the extent of damage are awaited," officials stated. Emergency crews are working to determine the full scope of the wreckage. No additional information on the number of passengers onboard has been released as of this report.
