Guwahati: Bir Lachit Sena wants the digging to stop. The group formally asked Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to intervene against ongoing hill excavation and blasting at Sonaikuchi. They submitted a memorandum to the Jagiroad Sub-District Commissioner on Tuesday, August 11.

The activists claim that heavy machinery and explosives are tearing through the landscape within the Nagaon Forest Division. Arup Bora and Bhaben Gogoi signed the document on behalf of the Jagiroad Regional Committee. They warned that these activities threaten both the local environment and public health.

Dipmoni Hira, the district committee chief secretary, made the group's stance clear during a media briefing. He said: "demanded legal action against those allegedly involved in blasting activities in violation of prescribed rules."

The organization wants a total ban on future permits for blasting or hill cutting in the greater Jagiroad area. The delegation that filed the complaint included Hitesh Deka, Lakhi Dutta, Pran Bhushan, and Bikashdeep Deka. They expect the state to act now.
