Assam to Build Major Sports Hub in Guwahati

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma plans to turn the Amingaon Complex in Guwahati into a premier integrated sports hub. The project aims to bolster local infrastructure and give home-grown talent a place to train. It is a big move for the state.

The upgraded site will feature an indoor stadium, a cricket stadium, and a swimming pool. The government also plans to build a players' hostel and various modern amenities to support athletes. Sarma took to X to confirm the development.

The goal is to foster a professional sporting ecosystem. The Chief Minister said the project reflects the government's "commitment to building a strong sporting ecosystem that supports grassroots talent while positioning Assam as an emerging destination for major sporting competitions." Officials expect the facility to bring national and international events to the region.
