Kohima: Assam Rifles troops pulled two trucks from a mud-choked road in Mimi, Nagaland, on September 6. Continuous heavy rain triggered soil erosion that left the vehicles trapped in unstable, muddy conditions. Soldiers arrived, assessed the mess, and hauled in a JCB to move the vehicles. Local residents helped guide the trucks to safety, restoring traffic flow to the area.
The force kept busy elsewhere. Assam Rifles units under the Indian Army’s Spear Corps staged a Teachers’ Day event at Merapani Town High School. The gathering brought together teachers, students, and local community members to honor the roles educators play in student development.
Soldiers and staff discussed discipline, values, and community participation. They also held a tree plantation drive on the school grounds. Officials said the initiative served to "encourage students to develop greater awareness and responsibility towards the environment." These efforts reflect the military's ongoing outreach during extreme weather and daily community life.

Beyond the rescue and school events, the force pushed into broader community welfare from September 2 to 4. In Peren district, troops teamed up with the Tening community health center to provide medical care to 80 villagers at Old Ngaulong Lodhi. They handed out sports gear to local kids and ran hygiene workshops focusing on sanitation and disease prevention. At the same time, medics screened 45 students at the Assam Rifles Public School in Chieswema, checking vitals and pushing for better nutrition and daily exercise.
Environmental and civic work kept the units busy in other sectors. At Chendang village, soldiers taught residents how to purify water and manage waste to stop the spread of illness. In the Mon district village of Wangti, the force joined locals and village guards for a mass cleanup to tackle waste disposal. Meanwhile, the environmental push hit the Meluri district where locals and soldiers planted 1,114 saplings across Akhen, Ziphu, Avangkhu, and New Thewati to help with soil conservation. The force also visited the Gasper and Immanuel Children’s Home in Shamator to hold motivational sessions for the residents.
