Guwahati: Assam Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah opened a new statue of Biswa Mahabir Chilarai and inaugurated Chilarai Bhawan on July 20. The ceremony took place in the Bongaigaon district at Patiladaha. Local leaders and community members attended the event alongside Jibesh Ray, who serves as the MLA and Chief Executive Member of the Kamatapur Autonomous Council.

The Kamatapur Autonomous Council funded and developed both projects. Baruah addressed the crowd during the event. He said, "Bir Chilarai remains an enduring symbol of Assam's valour and pride."

The minister expects the statue to spark interest in the history of the warrior among younger people. Chilarai Bhawan will function as a hub for the Koch-Rajbongshi community. It is designed to host literary, social, and community activities to boost regional engagement.
