Assam Budget Targets Aerospace Sector With 100 Crore Investment

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a 100 crore rupee allocation in the 2026 budget to grow the aerospace industry. The plan targets two goals: building a robust manufacturing ecosystem and establishing the state as a major Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul hub. It is a bold move. The state government intends to use its geographical location and new policy frameworks to pull in private investment.

The state government is relying on the Assam MRO Policy, 2025 to guide this expansion. Funds will go toward building infrastructure, supporting maintenance services, and boosting the supply chain for aviation and defense manufacturing. The chief minister made his intentions clear regarding the strategy on social media. "We are taking concrete steps to develop Assam as an MRO hub of the region owing to our geographical advantage and strong policy support," Sarma said.

Officials expect the project to diversify the local industrial base and create new jobs. By focusing on high-value manufacturing, the state aims to become a top destination for aviation companies. This effort represents a significant shift toward industrial modernization.
