Ashmita Chaliha Cruises into Korea Masters Final

Guwahati: Ashmita Chaliha punched her ticket to a BWF World Tour final for the first time. The 26-year-old Indian badminton star took down compatriot Rakshitha Ramraj in a gritty three-game semifinal at the Korea Masters on Saturday, August 8. She won 21-13, 16-21, 21-13.

Chaliha dominated the first game with sharp shots and tight court coverage. Ramraj fought back in the second game, capitalising on Chaliha’s mistakes to force a decider. Chaliha found her rhythm again in the final game. She grabbed an early lead and held it until the buzzer sounded.

This win marks a massive career milestone. Chaliha spent three months on the sidelines after a medial meniscus tear in her right knee. She returned to the circuit in May and eventually reached a semifinal at the Macau Open. Describing her path, one report noted, "Chaliha regained her composure in the final game and returned to her attacking style."

Chaliha now prepares for the summit clash against China's Han Qianxi. She remains focused on securing her first BWF World Tour title.
