Arunachal Mountaineers Conquer Ladakh Peak

Itanagar: Mountaineers January Tali and Hachu Lombo scaled the 7,077-metre summit of Mt Kun in Ladakh. They reached the top at 6 a.m. on July 27. The climb tested their grit. Tali hails from Yingkiong in the Upper Siang district, while Lombo comes from Anini in the Dibang Valley district.

This high-altitude climb in the Zanskar range features steep snow, treacherous glaciers, and nasty weather. It is a technical gauntlet. Nine climbers started the trek, but only four managed to finish the ascent. The group included seven men and two women, plus Sherpas.

Governor KT Parnaik praised the duo for their record. "Their successful ascent reflects extraordinary courage, determination, endurance and mental strength," Parnaik said. He believes their work will push more young people in Arunachal Pradesh to chase adventure sports and fitness.

Tali already has a long list of successful climbs. She previously summited six peaks in two weeks, such as UT Kangri, Mentok Kangri-I, Mentok Kangri-II, and Mentok Kangri-III. The Indian Mountaineering Foundation will issue official summit certificates to both Tali and Lombo for their latest feat.
