Aie River floods swamp Bongaigaon villages

Guwahati: The Aie River burst its banks Sunday, flooding villages in Assam's Bongaigaon district. Rapidly rising water levels choked off road access. Five villages under the Manikpur and Srijangram revenue circles now sit underwater.

Floodwaters swallowed No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 Bhandara, along with Balapet and Tentonpur. The local Basbari Sub-Health Centre and a cremation ground disappeared under the rising current. Roads became impassable. Commuters remain stranded.

Families are feeling the pinch. Livestock lack feed as the water creeps into low-lying zones. Residents called for immediate intervention from the district administration as the river continues to swell. One local resident noted the dire situation, stating, "The flooding has led to a shortage of fodder for livestock, adding to the difficulties faced by affected families."

The threat remains high. Officials watch the river level closely. Villagers wait for relief supplies to arrive.
