Kohima: Eighty players packed the Indoor Stadium in Zunheboto on June 27. The Zunheboto District Badminton Association hosted its third Pre-Tuluni Badminton Tournament. Forty teams faced off across four distinct categories including U-19 Girls, U-19 Boys, Veteran (45+), and Men's Doubles.
The event acted as a warm-up for the larger Tuluni Festival. Players and organizers finished the day with a communal feast. ZDBA President Kihika G Sumi pushed the idea that the event goes beyond simple competition. "The tournament was organised as part of the Pre-Tuluni celebrations to showcase the cultural significance of the Tuluni Festival through sports," Sumi said.
Organizers focused on three main goals: keeping sportsmanship alive, developing junior talent, and preserving Sumi traditions. Sumi labeled the effort sports with purpose and culture with a heartbeat. The association plans to keep this tournament on the calendar. They want to give local youth a path to excel while staying connected to their roots.
