Yachem Village Honors Late Chieftain Sangti Phom

Kohima: Yachem village laid its chieftain, Sangti Phom, to rest on June 27. He died June 26 following a short illness at age 88. He was born in 1935.

Mourners gathered at his native village to mark his passing. C Longnyu Phom, the 2nd Head Barrick of Yachem, addressed the crowd during the funeral. He remembered the leader’s vision and contributions. He urged the community to "carry forward his legacy" while seeking wisdom for future generations.

The funeral featured farewell speeches from former minister S Pangnyu Phom and the Yachem Village Council. Representatives from Chuchuyimlang, the local students' union, and family members also paid their respects. A solemn ceremony took place at Yakang Pang. This site serves as the highest decision-making center for the village.

Messages of condolence arrived from several groups. These included the Yachem Buhu Pangthai organizations in Dimapur, Kohima, and Longleng. Neighboring villages also sent their regards to the family.
