Itanagar: A woman sustained a leg injury after security forces opened fire on a suspicious vehicle in the Lalpahar area of Arunachal Pradesh’s Namsai district. The incident occurred on the Namsai to Lathao to Golden Pagoda Road, roughly eight kilometers from Namsai town and 15 kilometers from the Golden Pagoda at Tengapani.
Kalyani Namchom, a resident of Momong village, was identified as the victim. She is currently in stable condition at a nearby hospital. Security forces intercepted the van following intelligence reports regarding potential militant movement in the reserve forests. The vehicle allegedly ignored commands to stop, prompting the shooting.
Reports indicate the incident occurred either late Friday night or early Saturday morning. Investigators are currently looking into two rounds fired from a pistol. Officials are checking if security teams followed standard operating procedures. Police cordoned off the forest and launched a combing operation for suspects.
Namsai Superintendent of Police Kengo Dirchi confirmed the active investigation. "The incident did occur, and we have launched an investigation. We will brief the media soon, and the truth will come out after the probe," Dirchi said. Senior officers are on the scene as authorities work to identify the occupants of the van.
