Woman killed as train strikes car at unmanned crossing in Assam

Itanagar: A woman from Arunachal Pradesh died and another passenger sustained serious injuries on Friday after their vehicle was struck by a passenger train in Assam. The accident took place at an unmanned railway crossing in the Dekapam area of the Dhemaji district.

Authorities identified the deceased as Riba, a resident of Tajgaon. The vehicle was attempting to cross the tracks when the Ledo to Murkongselek passenger train approached, hitting the car and dragging it along the rails. The impact caused significant damage to the vehicle.

The injured passenger received initial treatment at a local medical facility before being transferred to Dibrugarh for advanced care. Local police arrived at the scene shortly after the collision to begin an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

Rail traffic was temporarily disrupted while emergency crews worked to clear the scene. According to official reports, "A bulldozer was later used to clear the wreckage from the railway line to restore train movement." Officials continue to examine how the accident occurred at the crossing.
