Wokha officials push livestock insurance for farmers

Kohima: Veterinary officials met with farmers in Merapani and Bhandari Town on June 23 to push livestock insurance. The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services organized the sessions to promote the National Livestock Mission 2025-26. Coverage protects against financial ruin.

Deputy Director Dr. Gwazenlo Tep spoke to the crowd at both locations. He explained how the plan works. Farmers must provide specific documents and GPS-tagged photos of their animals to get coverage. "The scheme encourages farmers to insure their animals, adopt improved livestock management practices and reduce the economic burden arising from unexpected losses," he said.

Dr. Kikali G Sumi led the event. After the briefing, the team handed out free basic veterinary supplies to the attendees. The goal is to keep herds healthy and help owners recover if animals die.
