Kohima: Wokha officials met at the DC’s Conference Hall on September 10 to push for social reform and local environmental safety. Advisor and DPDB Chairman Mhathung Yanthan led the meeting alongside Deputy Commissioner and Vice Chairman K. Mhathung Tsanglao. The board focused on the nationwide Reform Utsav program, which starts in October and runs through December 2026. Social Welfare Department Secretary Limawapang Jamir called for help from tribal bodies, including the Lotha Hoho and Women Hoho (Eloe). The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment initiative aims to boost welfare delivery for marginalized people.
"The Deputy Commissioner assured full district-wide cooperation," the meeting notes stated. Officials also discussed creating a District Sports Fund to help local athletes reach state-level events. During the session, Divisional Forest Officer Suman Shivashankar opened a wildlife helpline at 1800-202-0878. The control room handles wildlife emergencies, crop damage, and injury reports under the Forest and Biodiversity Management in the Himalaya Project.
Other departments presented updates on land schemes and HIV infection rates. Mount Tiyi College proposed adding an undergraduate Science stream. The session ended with members touring Fernbrook School to check on student progress. The board remains committed to district growth.
