Guwahati: A wild elephant was killed in Assam's Sonitpur district on June 18 after sustaining a fatal electric shock. The animal strayed from the Balipara Reserve Forest during the night in search of food and came into contact with a transformer located near Chariduar.
Forest officials arrived at the scene shortly after the incident to initiate standard procedures. While authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the death, officials said the animal died on the spot. Local reports suggest the tragedy highlights the recurring issue of human-elephant conflict in regions bordering forest habitats, as elephants frequently venture into human settlements seeking sustenance.
