West Garo Hills Police Arrest Five Suspects in ACHIK Murder Case

Shillong: West Garo Hills Police apprehended five primary suspects on Thursday in connection with the murder of ACHIK member Dilseng M Sangma. The individuals, identified as Sofiul Sheikh, Md Basirul Islam, Motidur Hussain, Saddam Hussain, and Mofid Zaman, had been avoiding authorities for five months following the incident.

The attack occurred on January 9 near Goalgaon village as Sangma and his colleagues returned from inspecting stone quarrying sites. A mob assaulted the group, leaving two members in critical condition. Sangma later died from his injuries while receiving medical care. The incident triggered widespread unrest and clashes across the region, which police eventually quelled through a series of investigations and targeted arrests.

The latest developments bring the total number of arrests in the case to 25. Police sources stated that a "charge-sheet into the case would be filed within a month." Authorities managed the case through the Rajabala police station as they continue to close the investigation into the fatal confrontation.
