VPP Takes NEHU to Court Over Bypoll Candidate Clearance

Shillong: The Voice of the People Party is taking NEHU to court. They need a No Objection Certificate for their candidate, Batskhem Myrboh, to run in the Shillong Parliamentary by-election. The university professor is still waiting on the document. VPP MLA Brightstarwell Marbaniang confirmed the legal move this week.

"The matter is in the High Court of Meghalaya and it is up to the Court. In few days, the Court will give the order," said Marbaniang. He expects a ruling shortly.

Marbaniang also fired back at claims of internal party friction. He rejected talk that VPP operates as a one-man show. He aimed fire at the MDA government instead. He alleged the state coalition pushed out former minister Ampareen Lyngdoh through a solitary decision. He noted she went to Delhi as a minister but returned as a backbencher.

The party leadership insists all their choices are group efforts. They are shutting the door on outsiders looking for easy tickets. Any potential members must align with VPP ideology rather than hunting for candidacy. Marbaniang also swatted away rumors about Ardent M. Basaiawmoit seeking a seat in the 2028 elections, claiming the party remains united and strong.
