Guwahati: Renowned Assamese violinist Sunita Bhuyan has kicked off a global tour, bringing her unique blend of music and leadership training to international audiences. The Boston Consulting Group invited Bhuyan to deliver a keynote address on the intersection of music and professional development at the Westin Seaport Hotel in Boston. Addressing over 450 professionals, she highlighted how artistic expression informs modern management and emotional intelligence.
Bhuyan, who is recognized as the first artist to perform traditional Assamese Bihu music on the violin, combines three decades of corporate experience with her musical practice. Her Boston presentation earned significant praise from leadership. According to Lori Maddams, a senior leader at BCG USA, "Sunita’s session deeply resonated with the values of the conference and aligned strongly with the organisation’s people-engagement vision."
The tour also focuses on her academic and medical work. At the Thoreau Institute of Global Health, she launched a music therapy programme as part of her new role as a Professor of Practice in Medical Humanities. Joined by her son, pianist Ronojit Bhuyan, and tabla player Amit Kavthekar, she also hosted a session at Walden Pond to demonstrate the therapeutic potential of blending Indian and Western musical traditions.
Following her success in the United States, Bhuyan will travel to France for Viva Technology Paris and conduct a leadership workshop at the Porto Business School in Portugal. Looking ahead to July, she plans to expand her music therapy initiatives for underprivileged cancer patients across remote regions of Assam while pursuing new international artistic collaborations.
