Villagers Allege Rs 6.5 Lakh Road Scam in Assam

Guwahati: Locals in Nagaon district are calling foul on a ghost road project. They claim representatives and contractors pocketed Rs 6.5 lakh in public funds meant for a road in the Tinisukia Gaon Panchayat. The money vanished. The road remains half-finished and dangerous.

Residents of Ward No. 7 say the project, funded by the MGNREGA scheme, exists only on paper. The accused allegedly submitted fake completion certificates to drain the entire budget from bank accounts. The project is a disaster.

"The construction work was left incomplete, leaving commuters to struggle on a half-built road that has become a major inconvenience for the locality," a resident stated. Officials allegedly forged official documents to bypass rules and steal the cash.

Angry villagers are now demanding a state-level probe. They want the district administration to identify the thieves and finish the road immediately. Accountability is the primary goal here.
