Itanagar: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan released a new book titled VIP Culture in India: Power, Privilege and the Distance from Democracy on Wednesday. Former MP Nabam Rebia and co-author Sandeep Kumar wrote the piece. The launch took place at the Uprashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
Radhakrishnan cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the event. He noted, "Every Indian is special. Every Indian is a VIP." The Vice President argued that visible privileges create a gap between citizens and officials. This distance hurts public trust in institutions.
The book tracks how VIP culture evolved in the country. It looks at how power structures affect democratic values. Public service should mean accountability. Radhakrishnan stated, "Democracy flourishes when public office is regarded as a responsibility rather than a privilege."
Attendees at the ceremony included former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and former Rajya Sabha member W.R. Kharlukhi. The event drew guests from academia and civil society to discuss the need for more transparent governance.
