Imphal: Unidentified individuals targeted the Churachandpur District Hospital on the night of June 17, vandalizing the operation theatre and attempting to set parts of the facility on fire. The motive behind the attack remains unknown, but the incident has sparked significant alarm regarding the security of essential healthcare infrastructure in the region.
Reports indicate that the hospital raid coincided with a burglary at the office of the Chief Medical Officer. The Churachandpur Doctors' Association issued a public statement condemning the destruction of the premier government facility and the theft at the administrative office. The association noted, "We are deeply saddened and concerned by the recent unfortunate incidents which occurred within the premises of the Churachandpur District Hospital, as well as the burglary reported at the office of the Chief Medical Officer."
Despite the disruption, medical staff have pledged to maintain operations and uphold their professional standards. The association emphasized their dedication to providing services to all residents regardless of their background. "As healthcare professionals, we remain committed to serving the people of our district without any discrimination based on caste, creed, religion or background," the group stated. Doctors are now calling on the public to help protect the sanctity of the hospital environment as the primary referral center for the district.
Local authorities have not yet released an official statement on the events. An investigation is currently underway to identify those responsible for the vandalism and attempted arson.
