Shillong: Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya begins a three-day visit to Meghalaya on May 29 to oversee preparations for the 39th National Games scheduled for 2026. During his stay in Shillong, the minister will chair high-level meetings with state officials and representatives from the Indian Olympic Association to discuss coordination and infrastructure progress.

A primary objective of the visit is the signing of the Host State Contract, which formally cements Meghalaya's role in the upcoming event. On May 30, Mandaviya will join Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to inaugurate the new Integrated Multipurpose Indoor Sports Complex. Constructed at a cost of 132.9 crore rupees, this facility features halls for basketball, badminton, and volleyball, along with an auditorium and banquet space.

The minister also plans to inspect the Umsawli Sports Complex to evaluate ongoing development at the venue's aquatic and tennis centers. Beyond event-specific logistics, Mandaviya will participate in youth affairs initiatives and the Department of Youth Affairs Chintan Shivir. His itinerary concludes on May 31 with an assessment of centrally sponsored schemes within the Ri-Bhoi district under the Poorvottar Sampark Setu initiative.
