Kohima: Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi visited Nagaland on May 20 to evaluate the progress of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises initiatives and various centrally sponsored programs in the Longleng district. During a meeting with local officials, he emphasized the need for collective action to ensure government benefits successfully reach the grassroots level.
The session was chaired by the deputy commissioner of Longleng, W. Manpai Phom, and included representatives from the District Planning and Development Board. Various departments presented reports detailing their current projects, successes, and ongoing challenges. A visiting central team noted that this assessment follows directives from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to better understand local developmental needs.
Local MLA and board chairman A. Pongshi Phom expressed gratitude for the visit, highlighting improvements in sectors including health, education, and rural infrastructure. He pointed to the success of the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme and the Chief Minister Micro Finance Initiative in helping residents launch businesses and improve their livelihoods.
Manjhi commended the local administration for their efforts in project implementation. He concluded his visit by calling for improved coordination between departments to ensure that future initiatives are executed in a timely manner. The feedback collected during the trip will be submitted to the Prime Minister Office and relevant ministries for further review.
